This little book seems to me like a bright stone cast

into the Pool of Happiness.  I can hear the splash

of laughter which will greet it and see the widening ripples

of smiles as each new possessor rejoices in its spell.

Having known and loved Edith Flack Ackley's Little

People for years, I am convinced that everyone, children

and so-called Grown-ups alike, need marionettes — children,

because they live so near the Never-never Land of

Whimsical Make-believe that these tiny actors seem real
